The houses of the Middle Ages were very different from houses of today. Medieval houses had no central heat; in most of the Middle Ages they did not even have fire places, but depended on fires on open hearths, with the smoke vented through window-like openings or holes in the roofs. They had no Plumbing and no electricity. For most people, the floor was dirt, and most houses probably really only had a single room.
