Nike was the Greek goddess of victory, and the divine charioteer in ancient and classical Greek art. She continued to be shown with wings long after other gods were rendered, artistically, as wingless. Wings came to be associated with Nike's role as goddess of speed, strength, and victory. So perhaps one of her two most famous artistic representations was the statue ka the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Perhaps the other has been Olympic medals of the 20th and 21st centuries. For Summer Olympics medal winners, since 1928, have found her representation holding a palm and a winner's crown.
