Operation Iraqi Freedom resulted in the end of the Ba'athist regime of Saddam Hussein by the coalition led by the United States of America. An interim government, an elected parliament, and Leader assumed authority over this new democracy. Operation Iraqi Freedom lasted from 20 March 2003 until 15 December 2011.
Vietnam War, 1955 thru 1975. Operation Desert Storm (removal of Iraq from Kuwait) took place in January & February of 1991 (less than a 60 day military campaign). Operation Iraqi Freedom started in 2003.
The American public was excited during the initial phases of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003; just as they were during the 45 day campaign of Operation Desert Storm in January/February 1991. After those initial "days", both campaigns degenerated into no activity.
Desert Storm was about a 45 day military campaign. Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) has outlasted DS by years! Longest war in European history might be the 100 year war. Then they have a couple of 30 year wars too. Most "traditional" (normal) wars in the 19th & 20th centuries lasted 3 to 5 years.
Operation Desert Storm was a 45 day military campaign to remove Iraqi forces from the country of Kuwait; which was done, at minimal cost to the US/Coalition forces.

All of the Southwest Asian wars (middle east), e.g. 1967 six day war; Yom Kipper War 1973, etc. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan 1979-1989 and all of the US military operations since Vietnam...Operation Urgent Fury (1983), Operation Just Cause (1989), Restore Hope (1992/93), Desert Storm (1991), Iraqi Freedom (2003-), Enduring Freedom (2001-). Basically Korea & Vietnam were major communist wars. Everything after that was either religious, border disputes, drug related, or neighbor disputes.
