The name Dinglasan came from "son of Dinglas" - Dinglas being a Portuguese thief who lived in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. He apparently settled in to what is known in Batangas City. It is believed that he owned a vast tract of land, which was eventually sold to finance the education of his children and grandchildren. The last remaining tract of land is now found in Barrio Tabangao. Other Dinglasans are known to have moved to the Visayas, as in Capiz.
