Australia is part of a Monarchy and is a constitutional democracy that is self governing. Australia is a federation of states which have sovereignty under their own right. Australians vote for Representatives in the federations lower house at 3 yearly intervals and senate every 6 years, they also vote for their state representatives 4 yearly as well as local council election's.

1 Australia is a federation of states. Each state has its own government which has an upper and lower house. These are voted for by the people through a secret ballot. There is no restriction on who can stand for a parliamentary position. The state governments take charge of education state law enforcement prisons roads basic infrastructure etc.

2 The federal government consists of a lower house and an upper house. The lower-house is voted for by the people within electorates (set boundrys with limited populations that are redrawn from time to time as may be required to keep them all fairly equal in population). each electorate votes to put 1 representative into Parliament. this is done at least every 3 years, The uper house representatives are voted for by every person that votes in each particular state and the senate is designed to look after the interest of the states as opposed to the interest of the the federation. For the lower house to effectively govern they can only do so with the blessing of the senate.

Australians have a preferential voting system where by their vote can be counted again and if they direct preferences to other candidates in case their first preference does not win a seat.
It is a democracy and a prime-ministeral representership.

Does Australia have a electoral college?

No, Australia does not have an electoral college system like the United States. Instead, it uses a parliamentary system where members of the House of Representatives and the Senate are elected directly by the public. The Prime Minister is typically the leader of the political party that has the most seats in the House of Representatives, following a general election. Voting in Australia is compulsory and conducted using a preferential voting system.
