About 103,869 people or about 1.5 % of Washington state is Native American. There are 29 federally recognized tribes in Washington who have tribal lands. There are also people without federal recognition or lands. In addition there are people here from Alaska and tribes from other states. There are about an equal number of people who report being Native and something else. Nationwide about 70% live off reservations, mostly in urban areas.

In contrast, Alaska is 14% Native but has about the same number. California has the most at 400,000 but it is a much smaller percentage.

Unrecorded in these numbers are the people from Mexico or Central America who are indigenous people. These people are listed as "hispanic". However some of these people don't even have Spanish as a first language, their native language is first. Spanish second and English third. As in the US others only speak the dominate colonial language, Spanish, but are culturally indigenous people or Native Americans.
