After New Orleans, which has been called the "Birthplace of Jazz", many say that Kansas City is the second. Kansas City was a place where the 'big band sound' took off, with artists such as Glen Miller pioneering this form of music. Musicians also migrated there because of the popularity of jazz in the south meant that work was harder to find. At around the same time jazz made its way to Chicago, Los Angeles, and most importantly: New York - where bebop was 'created'.

No one knows but New Orleans is usually credited with being the birthplace of jazz. Jazz began in the United States and quickly spread through other countries. The music began in the black communities of the American south. Those who began the art form combined their musical heritage with the music of America, and Jazz was born. It's earliest traces are found in the 1910s, in Louisiana. Most notably, the music could be heard when visiting certain clubs in New Orleans, as the city had an extensive black population.
