The item in question is , if true a dire historical and religious artifact, the Murder Weapon of the Crucifixion, or shortly thereafer. The Lance or spear ( called Holy Lance in Germany and Austria) was allegedly wielded by some Roman guard and was used during the Crucifixion of Christ. Thus, if real it has ambivalent character, like Good Friday itself. Dying He destroyed our death, etc.- but also a morbid murder weapon. The object, which appears to be much later ( possibly 7Th century AD) may well be a prop made for parades or Passion Plays, common in Germany- owing to reasons of time it is difficult to believe such a weapon could survive over 200 years as it has parts that are subject to natural decay- such as wood stocks and poles, and iron which can rust and corrode, etc. The weapon is believed to be in the Schatzkammer- literally Treasure Chamber- of the Hofburg- palace church- in Vienna, Austria. As Austria was part of the aThird Reich, there are natural connections with Adolf Hitler, but this is a little silly- so techinically he had custody over everything in the Reich- well this is like saying the Hope Diamond ( Govt property in the Smithsonian) was one of Nixon"s collector"s items. the argument is true in a way ( with Hitler) but so spread out.
