Inflation caused Mexico's currency to become nearly worthless by the late 1980s. In 1993, all existing pesos were replaced by the "nuevo peso" (new peso) at an exchange rate of 1000 to 1. The new peso is currently worth around 11¢ U.S. so one old peso would be one one-thousandth of that, or $0.00011.
