They're a vastly different culture, they do not share our historical roots. East and west didn't meet until a few hundred years ago in their country, when there were still sword carrying samurai. They are an ancient culture, with traditions we can't relate to. Are they wrong, or are they different?

The Japanese soliders probably never thought so do to their incorrect version of Bushido, the Samurai code. However, I believe that if the Japanese citizens knew about things like the Baton Death March, they would know it was wrong.
