Charles 1 of Great Britain believed his own Propaganda, that he was destined to rule by god and that everything he said or did was for the good of the country. This made it very difficult for Parliament to make laws to help the common people.

It was made more difficult by having a catholic wife at a time when the vast majority of people were protestant.

At times he dissolved parliament when it looked as if things were not going the way he wanted.

Basically, he made himself so unpopular that he brought on the English Civil War.
