There were multiple catalysts to the civil war. First there was a disagreement amongst the states over tariffs on imported goods from Europe. The South primarily paid these taxes and resented the fact that the income gathered from the tariffs were used on public works projects in the North. Secondly there was the issue of states rights. The South thought that the federal government should function like the U.N. settling disputes amongst the states while leaving the states to govern how they see fit. With the election of Lincoln the South feared that he would drastically change the role and power of the Federal Government, which he did. The South didn't agree that the Federal Government should be allowed to have that much power and decided to form their own nation.
Benjamin Franklin might have thought that Civil war was unnecessary
The civil war would've started earlier and it would've been harder for the Union to win
If we hadn't had the civil war than we might still have slaves today. Also as a reprecution of that, former slaves began demanding for more rights and then that led to women and every other minority out there to stand up for their basic rights. So if there had been no civil war, women might still not even be able to vote.
