Solar activity and green house gases moderate the temperature of Earth. Solar activity goes through an approximate 22 year cycle where the magnetic poles reverse which takes the first 11 years and revert back which takes the second 11. In spite of this, there is no noticeable difference between each of those 11 year halves as each half has a solar maximum (period of high solar activity and flares) and a solar minimum (period of low solar activity) of varying degrees. Without a doubt, the sun is the largest contributer to what heats our planet. However, greenhouse gases and ozone depleting elements through various ways also contribute considerably.
