They lived all throughout central Mexico. Their capital city was Tenochtitlan (present-day Mexico City), but many other cities were included in their vast domain, such as Acapulco on the Pacific coast or Zempoala close to the Gulf of Mexico.

If you look at an atlas, many Mexican cities have distinctive names that end in '-pan', '-pec' or '-can' such as Tlalpan, Tlacopan, Atizapan, Culhuacan, Chapultepec, Oaxtepec. These cities are of Aztec origin and kept their names, even after their conquest by Spanish conquistadores in the 16th century.
