Propaganda played a big role in ww1. It was used very often, and in more than one way. In many situations it was very simple but effective; it tricked people and made them make silly decisions.

Propaganda posters were used in Britain for the first time on a massive scale during world war one. Britain was one of the only European powers not to have conscription at the start of the war, so the poster campaign, bankrolled by the War Office played a crucial role in keeping recruiting numbers up. The campaign started with a picture of Lord Kitchener, the head of the War Office, appearing in the famous "Briton needs you poster". Conscription was introduced early in 1916 and posters were used to inform people of the change of laws. They then focused on saving the economy by asking good citizens to buy war bonds to finance the debt the government needed to fight the war. There ended up being more different war bond posters than recruitment ones .As well as that many posters were actually very rubbish but still managed to get people to join the armed forces.

WHY MEN JOINED UP

· Got six pence a day

· Saw it as a journey

· Thought it was there duty

· Thought they would get fame

· Friends joined up

· Persuaded

· Propaganda

· Thought it was a challenge

· Made it look fun

· Thought it wouldn't last long

· Thought they got rest

· Didn't want to be left behind.

Also many people didn't know what war was like; this then made men feel that war was not as gruesome as it looked.

Why did people have to join the army trench warfare?

The draft is the reason why people "have" to join the army. During WW1, in which previous to both WW1 and WW2, we seem to be isolationist; the U.S. had mandated the draft due to lack of Volunteers and the need to have a militaristic economy for a period of time to boost the economy which was not doing very well.
