How was slavery different in Africa and America?

Not much difference. Africans captured Africans and either kept them, sold them to other Africans, or sold them to whites.

When did the Portuguese first buy African Slave?

I am no history major, but from what i understand slaves were not generally bought. they were captured. there were some tribes that would sell their slaves they had captured from other tribes, but usually by the slaves were caught by the slave hunters. who would transport them to their markets. the golden triangle as it was called back in the gunboat deplomacy days was when a trader would sell opium in china, go to Africa and capture slaves and then after selling the slaves in America buy molassess and head back to England.

What were inslaved people that tended to crops in large farming estates?

Slaves who worked in farming estates were farm slaves. The Romans had many farm slaves. In antiquity slaves were war captives. They were civilians who were captured and enslaved when a town or a land was defeated as part of the spoils of war. The majority of Roman slaves worked on the large farming estates. In other historical periods and part of the world slaves were (and is some areas still are) captured in slave raids.

Where did enslaved Africans come from?

American slaveholders did not travel to Africa, the majority of slaves were enslaved by their neighboring African tribes and sold to slave traders on the African coast. European involvement was mostly in purchasing slaves available, not in creating new slaves. To improve upon the above answer. What is correct about the above answer is that slave holders did not travel to Africa. They bought slaves here in America from the Europeans who transported and kidnapped the Africans. DNA testing as well as history, will show that most people descended from African slaves are descended from West Africans along the coast, mainly Nigeria. So to say that they were brought there by other Africans is not correct. Also, it is known that the slaves that were brought from Central Africa were brought in shackles and taken to slave castles on the coast by Europeans. Europeans purchasing? That's definitely not history, but it is surely comical.
