Early civilizations often formed in river valleys due to the availability of fertile soil, which supported agriculture. Rivers provided a reliable water source for irrigation, facilitating crop growth and sustaining larger populations. Additionally, these waterways served as trade routes, enabling the exchange of goods and ideas, which further contributed to the development of complex societies. Key examples include the Nile in Egypt, the Tigris and Euphrates in Mesopotamia, and the Indus River in India.

The Indus Vally was a very early civilization but it was not the 1st, there were civilizations during pre-history many many thousands of years ago. The first civilizations that we have proof of are the ones who settled between the Tigris and Euphrates river; Mesopotamia (in modern day Iraq). The 1st civilization in the Indus Valley in the Harrapan society but not much is known because all there records are under the water table so we know little about them. :)Hope i helped!

There can never be an exactitude attached to the question concerning the "earliest" civilizations. With that said two early civilizations have left ruins, writings and traces of their early existence. One early civilization formed in the area we now know as Syria and land surrounding it. In a place called Sumer, we have evidence of a people living in a mesopotamian style of civilization dating back to 3500 BC. The second early civilization is further south in the area we now call Egypt. There in around 3100 BC, are the relics and ruins of an ancient Egyptian type of civilization. The hyper dry climate surrounding this civilization has allowed for the preservation of many writings and temples there. Some in total ruin, other ruins are better preserved. Other civilizations may qualify as the two "earliest" ones.
