You may:
- have to put up with cultural differencies and claims. The Austrian Empire couldn't do it, the result was basically World War I!
- face revolutions, especially if you favor certain people.
- encounter fierce resistance, especially if you try to conquer an empire you don't know like the locals do. That's how the US lost in Viet-Nam, how the French lost Indochine and Algeria, etc.
- run out of money due to the wars you wage, or your court's spending...
- deal with people trying to overthrow you.
- face plagues, natural disasters, starvation wages...
- undergo sudden change, for instance if your subjects suddenly get converted to a new religion en masse and you don't follow, you're very likely to end up badly.
- fall into decadence and loss your empire's unity, that's how the Roman Empire fell.
The more your Empire is built upon isolated elements that made it strong, the more it's actually fragile. For instance Napoléon's Empire was only built upon this leader's military genius, just like the Mongolian Empire was built upon cavalry and some Khans' bravery. So, I wouldn't recommend you to start building one... ;-)

An empire is built on an ideology, and this ideology requires fundamentals to thrive. An empire needs vast territories, land, a powerful, big army, and adequate supply lines for resources and commodities to survive as such. Examples of how an empire is built include the US, the British Empire, or the Greek/Roman Empire.

No, the Aztecs built their empire through a combination of military conquest, alliances, tribute systems, and strategic political marriages. They expanded their empire by subjugating neighboring tribes through warfare and imposing tribute requirements on them. Peaceful collaborations and agreements were not the primary means of expansion for the Aztecs.
They imposed it by conquest, but left the local political systems intact. They divided the empire into 20 provinces under Persian governors. They built a system of roads to facilitate movement of couriers and armies.
The empire was built with very hard stone.
The main reason the Incas built roads was to facilitate communication, trade, and military conquest across their vast empire. The roads allowed for easier movement of goods, information, and troops between different regions.

The roads built by the Inca empire were primarily used by the Inca people and their armies for transportation, communication, and trade. These roads were also used by other indigenous groups, messengers, and traders. After the Spanish conquest, the roads were used by the Spanish colonizers and later by indigenous and mestizo populations during the colonial period.
