in 1947, the truman doctrine said that we would support "free peoples who are resisting attempter subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures" specifically Greece and turkey at that time. he gave those countries $400 million to help fight communism, but the US did not help Hungary when they were revolting against communism in 1956.
They thought they were fighting for there freedom
Eisenhower said that USA should be able to help any country that revolts against communism
It would help any countries to stay away from communism, and it would help fight the forces that would prevent that.
The reason why the US intervened in Vietnam was to stop the flow of communism and to stop what was called "The Domino Affect" which was basically a predicted hypothesis that would mean that after one country became communist, its neighbors would. By intervening in Vietnam they could stop the spread further down and try and turn them democratic.
The USA was scared of communism, and stopping it from hitting their country was their main motivation. The French were in war against Japan, and with China (being a communist country) The French were losing the war to start with and America thought that they might be able to help stop the communism the other countries were trying to put across. What did they do? They flew in there troops, Dropped toxic gases and poisoned their crops so they could get sick. They were successful in the end.. And communism did not hit France nor America.
They did. They promised them to prevent settlement west of the Alleghenies.
it said that the us would aid any one who was in need of help, to help stop the spread of communism. it was something that the us felt obligated to do

To help rebuild Europe, and ultimately to make Communism less appealing. People in a country that is poor and struggling are more likely go give into the promises of Communism. This was a part of the "Containment" policy.
If you're talking about the US containment of Communism during the cold war it was known as the Truman Doctrine. President Truman promised to contain the spread of communism across the world, and that the US would help any country that had pressure from Communism whether it be external or internal. The US produced the Marshal Plan to stop Communism spreading in Europe because Communism came to poor people. The Marshal Plan meant that the US would provide any country who wanted help with money, advisers, natural resources, and industrial equipment. Stalin banned the Communist Eastern European countries from taking the Marshal Plan. In Asia the US followed the Truman Doctrine by helping, South Korea in the Korean War, and South Vietnam in the Vietnam War. In both cases, the Communist north attempted to capture the Capitalist south. Also when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979, President Carter (and later President Reagan) provided the Mujahadin, who were fighting the USSR, with weapons.
It killed lots of people who were fighting against :)

The Truman doctrine and containment had on common threat, communism. The truman doctrine wanted to help any country threatened by commmunism. Containment was about stopping communism from spreading especially in the U.S.
