The Mohawk take their name from Indian usage meaning "people of the flint" because they used native flint to craft weapon points and other tools. With the spear and arrow points they hunted. They ate all the native meats in the areas they inhabited. Bear, moose, deer, and all of the smaller animals of the region as well as fish and birds were included in their diet.
