In regards to our two wars against communism: Korea was a peninsula, that allowed the US/Allies to cut off enemy supplies, via the US Navy. Thus successfully holding the line against communism at the 38th Parallel. Vietnam was NOT a peninsula, and enemy supplies could not be stopped, regardless of the pounding from fighter/bombers & B-52 bombers. Without widening the war by involving Lao's & Cambodia, thus risking possible intervention from either the Soviets or Red Chinese, the US had to with draw from the war.
