Almost every aircraft type in the Allied air forces was used on D-Day. British, American and Canadian bombers bombed the beaches and German troop concentration the nights before D-Day,and on the actual day massive fighter cover protected Allied soldiers. - Over 14,000 air missions took place on the 6th June alone. By June 8 th British fighters of 2nd Tactical Air Force were operating from France, increasing their range by over 120 miles.

The Jeep was everywhere, as was the Dodge Power Wagon or 'Beep' , there were dozens of different 3 - 8 ton trucks from many British, American and Canadian companies, there were amphibious Jeeps and DUKW's. There were British and Canadian Quad artillery trucks towing 6 and 17 pound anti -tank guns, 25 pounder howitzers and 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft guns. All the allies had radio trucks, ambulances, repair trucks, spare parts trucks, mobile welding shops, and recovery trucks. All sides had small, medium and large gas tanker trucks and water trucks. All had the White half track truck mostly with 4 anti-aircraft cannon mounted, but some of the Americans had a 75 mm gun instead.

The British had small tracked armour called Bren Carriers, the Canadians had their copies of that, called Windsor Carriers built in Canada and the Americans had their copies called Weasels and built by Studebaker. The Canadians had 'Staghound' armoured cars, the Americans had the M8 "Greyhound" , the British had the small but agile Daimler Dingo.

As tanks the Americans had the Sherman M4, the British and Canadians had the up-gunned Sherman Firefly with the British 17 pounder gun. The British also had Crusader, Comet and Churchill tanks in numerous models. Some with huge guns just for blowing up concrete bunkers, others with bridging equipment, more with fascines for crossing wide ditches and others with bulldozer blades and big winches for recovering tanks. All the Allies used the M10 Wolverine a powerful tank hunter.

The British had light 'Tetrarch' tanks for recconaissance and the Americans used the M3 Stuart for the same purpose. All sides used the "Priest" a Sherman hull with a large howitzer mounted, as divisional artillery. These were also used as radio and command vehicles and advanced first aid vehicles.

All told there were possibly over 6,000 vehicles in over 100 types landed just on the 6 th June, with many larger vehicles and more tanks following every day in the next month.
