What was Augustus leadership style?

Augustus'' leadership style was paternalistic. He presented himself as the restorer of traditional Roman virtues, the guarantor of public morality, a benign benefactor and the man who brought peace and prosperity. Under his rule people could speak quite freely. However, it has to be noted that people did not dare to criticise or challenge him because he was in charge of the army. As a Roman man said, "You don't argue with 25 legions."
