Babur was born on 14 February 1483 at Andijan, Uzbekistan. He ascended the throne of Fergana at the age of 12. He was an able administrator and a military genius. He introduced the use of artillery in war. He invaded India five times, and on his fifth expedition, he occupied Delhi and Agra from Sultan Ibrahim Lodi (1st battle of Panipat in 1526). He founded the Mughal dynasty of India. Babur was Timurid from father's side and Mongol from mother's side. In 1527, he defeated the Hindu Rajputs under Rana Sanga (battle of Khanwa). In 1528, he captured Chanderi from Medini Rao. His last battle was against the Afghans in 1529 (battle of Ghagra). He died at Agra on 26 December 1530 and was succeeded by his eldest son Humayun.
