After the Civil War, Harriet Tubman returned home to New York to care for her parents. After her parents passed away, she raised food in her garden and pigs.
She couldn't work and was poor due to tuberculosis, but she used what she raised to help care for freed slaves and other's that were in need that came to her looking for aid.
Her first husband had been killed, but she remarried and adopted a daughter. They remained married for 20 years, until he died of tuberculosis.
She was a strong advocate of the Women's Rights Movement, and she also founded a home for black elderly, as they had little to nowhere to go during that period of time. Although Harriet Tubman's life was one of poverty, she did many great things.
