Adolf Hitler was an advocate of capitalism. On his route to power, he courted rich industrialists, who saw the theat of a militant communist movement in post 1st world war Germany as a threat to their position, and so backed the fascist and and anti trade union movement created by Hitler.

Hitler openly admitted his use of the word 'socialist' (in the name of his national socialist movement) and the use of red in Propaganda, was an attempt to tap into the support that left wing ideas had gained since the economic downfall prior to the Treaty of Versailles. Although an advocate of state intervention in the economy, Hitler was a friend of big business, and his suppression of communists, socialists and trade unionists in seeking to break the organised labour movement, was proof of this.

In conclusion, fascism was merely an extension of the capitalist system. Rather than see Germany move towards socialism, big business supported Hitler as the lesser of two evils. Under fascism, they could maintain their position. Communists were the first to suffer from this opportunism, and many were killed in the concentration camps, alongside the Jews, gypsies and other minorities.

Hitler was a Nationalist Socialist. He believed in allowing a private sector with rich buisnessmen, while at the same time regulating or performing direct state investment whenever he felt it a good idea.

On economic issues he was like most governments in North America and Europe today and for the last 60 year, giving truth to Mussolini's claim that fascism is the system of the 20th century.

Note: When communists are not the ruling power in a nation, then they are under the direction of the COMINTERN. The COMINTERN requires that communists in all nations be loyal to the Soviet Union's government and undermine the government of their home country.

Hitler was very successfully able to exploit the primary differences between Communism & Nazism to the German people, to gain their support of his anti-communist positions. He knew that Germans would be very much in favor of protecting their property rights even if it cost them all their other freedoms. Eventually after winning WW2, Hitler would have abolished property rights & the Church, eventually becoming the kind of government that Stalin had.

A modern example is China. It became a Communist governed nation in 1949, and after the total economic failures of the 1950-1980's, began to relax restrictions on private property ownership, business enterprises, and certain kinds of capitalism. So it has transitioned some to the right, to more of a fascist form of government. It would be crazy to suggest that China's government swung from the far left to the far right in the last 20 years.

In summary, the best way to look at the the right vs. left is:

political freedom vs. government control and/or Dictatorship

capitalism & economic freedom vs. goverment controlled economic activity

free markets for labor, land & capital vs. government directed pricing, wages, etc.

private ownership vs government owns everything

He was a fascist who made good use of the capitalist industries that furnished his the weapons of his war machine. He was clever enough to see that the best tanks and warplanes were possible only if he allowed certain industries to compete for government contracts. Capitalism was a tool for Hitler. He held total control of the economics of Germany.
