Mr. Madison was strongly against slavery, and saw slaves as equal individuals. (this did not, however, stop him from keeping slaves his entire life) He tried to bring his opinion to the other delegates, but it was clear this would not happen. therefore, he suggested the Three-Fifths Compromise, stating that slaves be counted as three-fifths of a normal person in governmental desiscions. Obvioulsy he was in favor of it since he was the one who suggested the idea.

James Madison, along with most of the other founders, thought that since all the states had their own bills of rights, there was no need of a general one. Well, a while after signing the U. S. Constitution, he got a letter from Thomas Jefferson saying that the U. S. of A. DID need a general bill of rights. So that's why James changed his mind and wrote the Bill of Rights.
"Compromise" is the process of accommodating different needs and view points, and not "government".
The Northern states were opposed to the Missouri Compromise of 1820. They felt Missouri should not be a slave state as it would give the South more power.
