What was New Zealand's involvement in World War 2?

New Zealand forces served in both the Mediterranean and the Pacific fom 1940 to the end of WWII. Ground troops were in North Africa, Greece, Crete and Italy with the British Eigth Army and in the Solomon and Treasury Islands against the Japanese. Its naval units crewed three cruisers that saw service in both oceans and the smaller vessels served well throughout the conflict. New Zealand aviation units were active in both Europe and the Pacific.

Michael Savage, the PM at the time was famously quoted in an address to the nation "where Britain stands, we stand, where she goes, we go." The height of British optimism was ended however, causing a split between Great Britain and New Zealand when the Royal Navy was not sufficient to defend the south pacific, ended in NZ's isolationism after the fall of singapore.

They had another complication: Japan wanted Australia and New Zealand because of the raw materials they had and because the Japanese wanted to control the Pacific nations, part of their imperial expansion. Those were the reasons New Zealand became involved in World War 2.
