The leader of the 1605 Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament was Robert Catesby. Guy Fawkes effigy is burned on Bonfire Night each November 5th in Britain to this day. King James the 1st was the object of the attempt, the conspiritors were Catholics opposed to a Protestant King, their idea was to kill the king and the parliament, then create a new Catholic Britain but it would never have worked as only about 5% of Britain were Catholic so they would've been killed either way. So whether or not the fuse was lit, it would never have worked.
