The main Roman forms of art were sculpture, frescoes and mosaics. The Romans also made beautiful relief art, cameo carvings, jewellery, silverware and pottery. Roman architecture was also artistic.

Sculpture was the main art. The Romans (like the Greeks) were fond of statues and produced massive amount of them. In the republican period they made busts which were highly realistic and detailed the signs of age. Age and its wisdom were seen as the hallmarks of statesmanship and symbolised the virtues of integritas et gravitas. The portraiture sculpture of this period is considered the best there has ever been. In the later period they made full body statues modelled on the highly refined Hellenistic sculpture.
