The most common punishments during the Medieval times was prison or a fine to pay. But however, they could do torcher such as be-heading and tying you to the back hoves of 2 horses and hacking away at your joints so once the horses run, RIP!!! goes your limbs. And another punishment could of been gagging or poisioning. So either way you put it, the punishment's here were very maleviolent! O.O

Most of that was made up - or "learnt" from films!

.The word is "torture" and that is not a punishment but a means of extracting confessions or information.

.Punishments varied according to the offence. Non-capital punishments were typically fines, flogging,. the stocks or pillory (or other methods of public humiliation) and gaol. Capital punishments were usually by hanging (sometimes with drawing and quartering), and beheading. The last was generally reserved for the nobility. Burning at the stake was common for heresy.

.I mentioned films. A point shown by Mediaeval and Renaissance artists was that there was rarely any theatricality. Torturers and executioners wore the ordinary clothes of the day, not leather tabards and masks; scaffolds (raised stages) for executions were rare. So forget all that grisly twaddle in 'Braveheart' and the like: hanging, drawing and quartering was an agonising, squalid bloodbath.
