What was the Resistance in World War 2?

This term was used for irregular armed resistance to German occupiers in WW2, for example in France, Norway and Yugoslavia. Sometimes it's also applied to the German attempt in 1944, headed by Stauffenberg, to assassinate Hitler.

There is no such thing called "The Resistance".

Nearly every country under Nazi Occupation had loyalists who performed acts of violence and sabotage in an effort to regain control of their homeland. Each one of these organizations was called a Resistance Organization. The Free French in France and the UK were the most famous such resistance organization. The Yugoslav Resistance was the most successful, eventually defeating the Nazis in before the Soviet advance would liberate western Romania.

Each Resistance organization would have several general attributes in common:

• Acts of Sabotage: The Resistance organizations would target railroads, telecommunication stations, Nazi government offices, and numerous other symbols of Nazi infrastructure to prevent a coordinated occupation.
• Assassinations: Often a Resistance organization would try to assassinate high-level Nazi targets to send a strong message to both the Nazis and the population that the Nazis were not untouchable.
  
• Use of the Terrain: Resistance organizations typically had a good rapport with the local citizenry and would hide with them in the cities. Often they would also hide in the forests and hills where the Nazis were more ill-at-ease.
• Use of Radio: The Radio was a relatively safe way to broadcast hopeful messages and speeches to the general populace and rekindle patriotism without endangering those broadcasting.
• Coded Commands: Leaders who were in-country needed to use codes to circumvent Nazi Spies and prevent the disruption of their operations. They also had more autonomous cells to prevent the destruction of one cell from endangering the entire Resistance organization.

The Jewish resistance was not one body, there were resistance groups in different areas, but it would make no sense to try to co-ordinate groups that were thousands of kilometres apart.
