Union IMPROVEMENT Ulysses S. Grant, at that time Major General commander of the Union Army of Tennessee won the Battle of Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing as called by the Confederates).
The US Civil War Battle of Shiloh took place just off of Pittsburg Landing which lay on the Tennessee River. The Confederate state of Tennessee was its Southern location.
The Battle of Shiloh was fought in Tennessee, near Pittbsburg Landing, about 25 miles northward Corinth (Mississippi), on April 6-7, 1862.

Shiloh takes its name from a small church on the battlefield of the same name. It is ironic that "Shiloh" is a Hebrew word meaning A PLACE OF PEACE. The battle is also called the Battle of Pittsburg Landing deriving this name from the small trading community on the Tennessee River which is also a part of the battlefield.
