Historians, particularly Bantuists, have since discovered that the Bantu cradle was in West Africa in the borderlands between Nigeria and Cameroon. In this area, the Mambilla Region spanning this border has been the point from which virtually all the peoples in the areas to the south of it, southwest Cameroon, central African areas, east and South Africa dispersed (see accounts in Connell, 1995, Zeitlyn and Connell 2003, and Bami-Yuno, ms). "The people of the Mambilla region are the Bantu whom stayed home" (Zeitlyn and Connell, 2003; Martin, 2009). Bantuists are therefore generally agreed that Greenberg's theory was the most plausible explanation of Bantu origins while the theory of a central African beginning was thoroughly discredited (Nurse, 2001).
