I think you are asking about Istanbul, but Istanbul was never a capital of independent Turkey. Atatürk moved the capital from Istanbul to Ankara early in his reign as Turkish President.
Turkey
The Republic Of Turkey was founded in 1923 when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and his followers overthrew the corrupt rulers of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire was the predecessor of modern day Turkey.
Nobody wants to resurrect the Ottoman Empire per se. Turkey's current foreign policy is seen as the "New Ottoman Empire" since Turkey is trying to reach out in a dominant position diplomatically to former Ottoman countries. However, Turks are quite happy with the way the current democracy works.
D. The Ottoman Empire was the former name for what is now Turkey. The Ottoman dynasty lasted for 623 years until 1st November 1922, when the monarchy was abolished.
Well, there are three names for the same city (weird, but yeah...) Istanbul is the current name (and name during the Ottoman Empire) but during the time of the Byzantine Empire, it was Byzantium before it was changed to Constantinople. Hope that helps!!

Anatolia has had a large number of names across time. You may wish to be specific as to what timeframe you are referring to. The last name Turkey had prior to being called Turkey was the Ottoman Empire.

The Capital of the Ottoman Empire was originally called Byzantium before being renamed as Constantinople and was renamed by Ottomans as Istanbul. It's says in my history book...: The victorious sultan rode to Hagia Sophia, the city's largest Christian church. There he offered thanks to Allah and gave orders that the church be transformed into a mosque. He decreed that Constantinopole was now a Muslim city, the capital of a Muslim empire, and renamed it Istanbul. The Byzantine Empire was no more. The Ottoman Empire no longer exists, its capital was Istanbul. The capital of modern Turkey is Ankara. Edirne was the third capital city of the Ottoman Empire, before Constantinople

The modern country of Turkey has been called many things in the past. The landmass of Asian Turkey has often been called Anatolia or Asia Minor. The former countries which ruled from modern day Turkey in the last 2000 years include the Byzantine Empire, the Seljuk Empire, and the Ottoman Empire.
The countries of the Balkans (Greece, Serbia, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, etc.), Turkey, and Israel are the former Ottoman Empire countries that have modernized most closely to the Western model.
