The one specifically in Swabisch Gmund was Bismark Kaserne (formerly Adolf Hitler Kaserne in WWII). It was the Headquarters of the First Battalion, Forty-First Filed Artillery, Fifty=Sixth Field Artillery Brigade. The Pershing 1A and Pershing II firing batteries A and D, HQ 56th FA, a chemical unit, communication unit, and elements of 2nd ID.
"Up the hill" at Hardt Kaserne, within the village of Hardt, was Hardt Kaserne. The firing batteries B and C, Finance, Dental, Class VI, Commissary, and Dependent Housing were at Hardt Kasern.
Bismark Kasern was closed in 1989, the fences came down, and in 1992 the University of Maryland opened a campus there. It closed in 2002.
