Kings and queens said that God made them nobles, and crowns were inherited or won in war. A perfect example of a noble thinking he should be king was the Yorkist in the War of the Roses. Henry Tutor won the crown by killing the York king, but through his rein he had to fight off the York backers and he married Elisabeth of York to seal his hold on the throne, but as the mother of Henry the eighth there was still people who thought that Henry shouldn't be on the throne. This is one reason that he was so set on having a male heir and ended up with having Elizabeth 1 as heir to the Tutor throne.
