In the Union(North) they worked in factories. In the Confederate(south) they worked in plantations, Tobacco and Cotton. That's all i know.. the North had not only factories to work at but they had newspapers and small business to work at! and the south had plantations to work at but they didnt just grow tobacco and cotten.
