Drake's attack on Cadiz and Coruna in 1587 is sometimes called the 'singeing of the King of Spain's beard.' Drake sunk or captured between 20 to 30 ships in this raid. ================ Drake also burned just about every piece of seasoned wood he could find up and down the coast. The Spaniards had been stockpiling the wood in preparation for the (first) Armada. Drake, of course, was virtually unopposed on the sea at this time, the immediate aftermath of the burning of the Armada while it was still in harbour. In addition to the burning of the seasoned wood being a brilliant act, it also terrorized the civilian population (although Drake concentrated his efforts on military targets). The burning of the seasoned wood on shore accomplished two things: because the Spaniards then had to resort to the use freshly cut wood, their remaining patched-up ships and the newly built replacements were not as seaworthy as they otherwise would have been; and the fresh wood that was used in making barrels caused a significant amount of the Spaniards' water and food to go bad during the second Armada.
King Tutankhamun, like many pharaohs of ancient Egypt, is often depicted with a chin beard as a symbol of his divine status and authority. The beard represents the pharaoh's role as a god-king and is a traditional element of royal iconography. In ancient Egyptian culture, beards were associated with wisdom, power, and masculinity, reinforcing the ruler's position in both life and the afterlife. King Tut's chin beard, often seen in his funerary mask, reflects these cultural beliefs and his status as a young pharaoh.

The false beard on King Tutankhamun's mask is wrapped in a material called "gold." The beard itself is made of a solid gold base, which was designed to symbolize the pharaoh's divine status and connection to the afterlife. Additionally, it is adorned with a variety of precious stones and inlays, which enhance its significance and beauty. This adornment reflects the intricate craftsmanship of ancient Egyptian artisans.

Singeing the King of Spain's Beard happened in 1587-07.
On the 19th April 1587 Sir Francis Drake entered the harbor of Cadiz on the Spanish coast and led a per-emptive strike on the Spanish fleet, destroying a number of ships (20-30) and their supplies, and causing the planned Spanish attack on England to be postponed for over a year. Drake referred to this successful attack as "Singeing the King of Spain's beard".

He grew his beard because he wanted to copy his great rival, King Francis the First of France, who made him jealous when he became a King, because he was even younger and more athletic than Henry VIII.
In 1535, King Henry VIII of England, who wore a beard himself, introduced a tax on beards. The tax was a graduated tax, varying with the wearer's social position.
