What was the strongest army in history?

Certain empires have had armies as large as nations, but these empires no longer exist. For example, the British army amassed the largest military force in the (non-ancient) world in order to suppress the American Revolution.

In terms of sheer size and power, the army of the Soviet Union (USSR) had the most powerful armed forces after World War II and were on a par with the US and China from 1945 until the 1980s. Part of the Soviet military might came from their Eastern European satellite countries, which eventually became independent again.

Strictly in terms of manpower and equipment, China has the largest armed forces of any single nation (comparable to NATO). However, in terms of destructive power and the projection of power, the United States has the most powerful military.

That is debatable. Rome had a very organized and solid military for 200 years starting from 150 BC I believe, but the Egyptians' army was also very massive during the time. Spartans were known as very strong but very small and chaotic in my opinion.

700BC Assyrians. 400BC Macedonians. 200BC han(China). 100AD, Rome. 300s Persian. 400s Goguryeo (Korea)

Assyrians: first siege machines and early iron weapons with huge shields

Macedonians: Phalanx

Han China: Crossbows, Kung fu pole arms like sword-spear-axe-dagger made of strong iron/steel, Dagger Axes that were 9 feet and delivered death blows, triple bow crossbow catapult, etc.

Rome: catapults, gladius (short rapid stab swords), pilum (shield disabling by staking buckle javelins) giant shield and mostly theirs were adopted from others and innovated

Persians: full armored, basically scaled knights, Lances and other advanced spears

Korean kingdom Goguryeo: Full armored, basically scaled knights. swords- spears, lots of adopted and innovated weapons from han China, curved shot assault spears, and reflexed horn bows (bow that their tension position in a "C" and it when there is sting, there is a recurved "D" shaped, so that means that when released, the bow is already in tension before being pulled back
