Harold didn't really have any advantages, but he had alot of disadvantages. William was on a hill which meant Harold's Archery were useless and also either side of him were farmland areas with wet soil on them. If someone steps into that they will go down like when you step into quicksand! Also if Harold did turn back then he would have to prepare for about 10 minutes for take off, because he is on see and he brought many boats and the horses didn't like getting in them. It will take less than 1 minute for William to come down, so its only up or die for Harold.

Harold had at least 3 Advantages over William. They were

Harold was on top of a hill, which the Normans wouldn't climb

London was on the path Harold Goodwinson was based on.

And there was swamps surrounding the hill on which he was based.

However William had a plan.

William pretended to run off.

The outcome was Harold coming down the hill. After that he was defeated.

He had a full fit army when Godwinson just won a war so he was probably tired even though he picked up a new army they probably weren't that experinced.

He had the advantage of having the higher ground (of Senlac Hill 7 miles away from Hastings). Which briefly stopped William's efforts of his archers creating lots of damage and his cavalry charging at them as they had a hard time riding up the hill and the arrows didn't really effect them. Until Harold's army broke their defence (shield wall) as the believed that William was killed (which was not true).
