The Louisiana purchase wasn't a period of time... it didin't have hardships. it was when we bought the Louisiana Territory from the French after Napolien took over thus giving us control of the port city New Orleans and doubling the countries size.

  1. The treaty was "unconstitutional" since there was no Fed. gov power to buy territory from other countries.
  2. America was already in debt. The Port of New Orleans cost 7 million. The rest of Louisiana cost 15. 22 million in all.
  3. Drove Native Americans out of their homes.
  4. Controlling the Mississippi River made conflict with other countries.
  5. A large piece of land is hard to control.
  6. France had a right to be in Louisiana.
  7. Some parts of the U.S. felt less represented by the gov.

It wasn't a disadvantage. It was an advantage. It doubled the size of America, brought good farming, brought more people.
