The Allied Power ideologies were both common and divergent before, during, and after 1945. Politically the United States and the United Kingdom were democracies, as were the governments in exile of Poland, France and other occupied West European states. The Axis Powers of Germany, Italy and the Empire of Japan in contrast were authoritarian and fascist states with the objective of expansion on and extermination of other ethnicities. The Soviet Union as an allied power had the ideology of tyranny under Stalinism and his brand of communism. The Allies with the exception of the Soviet Union were also market economy oriented ideologies in contrast to the Japanese and the Germans National Socialist business model.
