What were the attack and defense systems of castles?

The attack systems of castles include: Trebuchets (which fire burning, diseased or heavy objects at the castle. Including horses) Battering Rams (They used this to get through the doors of the castle) Siege Towers (The enemy would have this to get onto the castle tower or battlements to attack the knights and people there.) And I'm sure there are many more other attack methods used for castles including crossbows and archers. The Defence systems of castles include: Archery slits (The archers inside the castle shoot through these so that the arrow can kill someone, but they couldn't kill the archers inside) Syrup Pot (They poured hot syrup or tar onto the enemy through a hole above the door, this was sticky and hot so they were immobile with this method) Moat (This was a ring of water surrounding the castle so the enemy couldn't walk into the castle easily, unless they wanted to drown in water) Draw bridge (This allowed people to cross the moat. But when the attackers drew near they could raise the drawbridge so they couldn't get through the door into the castle.) The environment (If the castle was on a hill, mountain or any other terrain, then it would be much more difficult to get to the people in the castle. Or at least longer than on nice, flat ground anyway.) I also think there are other defence methods in defence too. But these methods are some of the methods they used in medieval times to defend and attack a castle.
