WW1 saw significant innovation in war.

Defensive fortifications saw widespread use with trenches, barbed wire and mines seeing significantly use.

Artillery was widespread usually to soften up a defensive area or attempt to stop a push against your own lines. Communication and targeting control made this problematic.

Chemical weapons, notably either poison or irritating gas were used.

Planes saw usage initially to perform recon but eventually fighters and limited bombing capability became available. Blimps saw some use providing observer platforms for artillery.

Tanks saw thier first limited use. They were not a significant factor however

Cavalry and dragoons still saw some use but the limited mobility of the battlefield limited the need for these kinds of troops.
