There was only one Gulf War in 1990-91. It was about oil.

The Iran-Iraq War of 1980-88 has been repeatedly mistaken on WikiAnswers for the "first" Gulf War, but it was fought entirely between Iran and Iraq. In the last years of the war the US began providing American flags to international tankers in the Persian Gulf as there was a legitimate concern that the war might interrupt the flow of oil from this region. A US warship was put out of commission by an Iraqi missile, and the US Navy interdicted several Iranian suicide boats.

The operations presently being conducted in Iraq and Afghanistan are not a Gulf War either, but they are about oil. Most of the world's oil comes from that part of the world.
