The second voyage of Christopher Columbus was a vastly expanded one from his first voyage in 1492. He expanded his exploration of the Caribbean Sea and had enough men and ships to bring settlers and animals that were needed to gain a foothold in places such as Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Cuba among other islands in that sea.

Christopher Columbus discovered Puerto Rico on November 19, 1493 during his second voyage.
Columbus left Cadiz, Spain, on September 24, 1493 to find new territories, with 17 ships carrying supplies, and about 1,200 men to colonize the region. On October 13, the ships left the Canary Islands as they had on the first voyage, following a more southerly course. Christopher Columbus made four voyages to the New World. On his first trip in 1492, he landed in the Bahamas, specifically on an island he named San Salvador. During his second voyage in 1493, he explored several Caribbean islands, including Dominica and Puerto Rico. On his third voyage in 1498, Columbus reached the mainland of South America, landing in present-day Venezuela, while his fourth and final voyage in 1502 took him to the coasts of Central America, including Honduras and Costa Rica.
Christopher Columbus not only explored Cuba, but he originally founded Cuba. He did this during his voyage in the year of 1492.
On his Third Voyage in 1498 Columbus first explored any mailand, this time that of South America. On his fourth voyage, begun on May 11, 1502, he explored the mainland of Central America which is on the North American continent.
