She had a lot of struggles. One of them was being jewish, at that time hitler hated jews and jews were to be sent to a concentration camp, that was like the biggest struggle for her, not only for her but the eight people living in that annex. Another struggle was the fact that she had to share her room with Fritz Pfeffer, they would fight as she would state in her diary. Another struggle would be with the Vaan Pels even with Peter.
Jan Gies, Miep's husband, had contacts with the Dutch Resistance, and managed to get food coupons for all of those in the annex. Miep and Bep did the shopping. They often had to "take what they could get", but they managed to keep the eight in hiding fed.

But of course, apart from meat, the eight people in hiding need a lot more help. Miep Gies is one of the helpers of the eight people who are in hiding in the Secret Annex. The other helpers are Johannes Kleiman, Victor Kugler and Bep Voskuijl. Bep Voskuijl's father has also helped the people in hiding. He made the movable bookcase which hides the entrance to the Secret Annex.
