The three teachings of Buddhism(brought from India). Taoism(formed by Lao Zi to believe in nature) and Confucianism (formed by Confucious which teach to respect your elders and higher classes) (these to where more of philosophies) were the beliefs of Ancient Chinese people. The ancient Chinese people also believed there was a Shang Di or the god who controls basically everything. Shang Di was also believed to be the one who changes the dynasties because the last emperors of the dynasties were useless Since Shang Di stopped protecting the dynasty. Shang Di usually chooses a new leader to form a new dynasty.

The Chinese believe in teaching Buddism Taoism and Confucianism.

The above is a rough post-Buddha solution to the question. Ancient Chinese societies actually believed in a creator God called Shang Di and animal sacrifices were offered to this deity. With the introduction of Buddhism in Western China around 2000 years ago the religious rituals and belief associated with Shang Di slowly faded. Some believe that Shang Di was in fact the same God whom the ancient Hebrews worshipped. Evidence of this exist in the origins of certain ancient Chinese symbols (some of which are still used today), characters and stories.

The first written Chinese scripts are suspected to be about 4500 years old or older and various characters indicate an origin relating to particular events recorded in The Bible's book of Genesis. For example, the Chinese word for 'ship' consists of 3 other symbols; eight + mouths + boat = ship. There were eight people on board Noah's arc. Other examples involve the combination of words to form other words which hint at an Ancient Chinese knowledge of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

There is also an ancient Chinese belief that the entire Chinese race originated from one man (or hero) named Nu-Ah which is also a Chinese word for 'woman' but when used to described this legendary forefather it has no conjunctive meaning and is simply the sound of his name. According to ancient Chinese belief, Nu-Ah apparently survived a massive global flood in a floating device and spawned the beginning of the Chinese nation.

There is plenty of modern literature available on-line and possibly in your local library which will verify this response to the above question. Some of this information maybe considered as alternative science/history by many in certain fields of study and how the facts can be interpreted is debatable. Nevertheless, whether Nu-Ah actually existed or not, the fact that pre-Buddhist Chinese cultures adhered to the legend can not be denied, as can also be said of the creator God Shang-Di.

In about 2000 BC, the Chinese worshipped a lot of different gods, like weather gods ect and also a higher god who ruled over the rest called Shang-Ti. They also believed that their ancestors became like gods when they died, and wanted to be worshipped too. Each family worshipped their own ancestors.

Around 1500 BC, people began to use oracle bones to try to find out what was to happen in the future. By about 1100 BC, they were also worshipping a natural force called t'ien, which translates as Heaven.

Laozi created the philosophy of Taoism. Taoism is a philosophical and religious tradition of China that emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao. The Tao is a conception of an original, primordial source of the universe's natural order.
