The ideas/programs of Stalin's were:

  • The Five Year Plans, which aimed to increase the Soviet Union's industrial capacity
  • Collectivization (and dekulakization) which aimed to increase agricultural production by eliminating most individually run farms (by peasants known as "kulaks") and combining them into larger operations. It also aimed at killing millions of people who fit the term "kulak."
  • "Socialism on One Country," which aimed to solidify the Soviet Union as a socialist country amidst the capitalist countries of the West. Others, such as Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky felt that socialist revolution must be spread everywhere otherwise the capitalist countries would destroy a single socialist country.
